Oakland Raiders Sign K Matt McCrane; Place K Mike Nugent on IR

ALAMEDA, Calif. – The Oakland Raiders have signed free agent K Matt McCrane, the club announced Wednesday.

McCrane, a 5-foot-10, 165-pound rookie kicker, enters his first season in the NFL after signing with the Arizona Cardinals as an undrafted free agent following the conclusion of the 2018 NFL Draft. McCrane connected on all four of his field goal attempts in preseason action, including makes from 53- and 54-yards out, while also being true on all three PATs.

A native of Brownwood, Texas, McCrane was a three-time All-Big 12 performer at Kansas State, becoming the first kicker in school history with three all-conference honors. Over his four-year career, he made 57-of-66 field goal (88.4 percent) attempts and connected on 133-of-134 PATs. His 88.4 percent career average ranks second in Big 12 history and sixth in NCAA lore. McCrane’s 304 career points placed him as the Wildcat’s all-time scoring leader.

In a corresponding move, the Raiders have placed K Mike Nugent on the Reserve/Injured List.

Oakland Raiders Acquire Two First-Round Selections, Trade DE Khalil Mack

ALAMEDA, Calif. – The Oakland Raiders have acquired first-round selections in the 2019 and 2020 NFL Draft via a trade with the Chicago Bears. As part of the trade terms, the Raiders will receive the Bears’ sixth-round selection in next year’s NFL Draft, in addition to a third-round pick in the 2020 NFL Draft. The Raiders have agreed to send the Bears DE Khalil Mack, the team’s second-round selection in the 2020 NFL Draft and a 2020 conditional fifth-round pick.

A first-round selection (fifth overall) by the Raiders in the 2014 NFL Draft, Mack started and played in all 64 contests as a Raider. Over his four-year career with the club, he totaled 327 tackles (238 solo), 40.5 sacks, one interception returned for a touchdown, 17 passes defensed, nine forced fumbles and four fumble recoveries. 

Mack was named to the Pro Football Writers of America All-Rookie Team in 2014 and earned First Team All-Pro selections in two consecutive seasons (2015-16). Additionally, he became the first Raider since 1980 to earn Defensive Player of the Year honors in 2016 and was nominated to three Pro Bowls.

Oakland Raiders Acquire QB AJ McCarron

ALAMEDA, Calif. – The Oakland Raiders have acquired QB AJ McCarron via a trade with the Buffalo Bills, the club announced Saturday. As part of the trade terms, the Raiders will receive McCarron in exchange for the Raiders’ fifth-round selection in the 2019 NFL Draft.

McCarron was originally drafted by the Cincinnati Bengals in the fifth round (164th overall) of the 2014 NFL Draft. Now in his fifth year in the NFL, McCarron has appeared in 11 contests and made three starts, recording a 93.6 passer rating on 88-of-133 pass attempts (64.7 percent) for 920 yards, six touchdowns and two interceptions. 

A native of Mobile, Ala., the 6-foot-3, 215-pound McCarron spent four seasons at Alabama, compiling a 36-4 overall record during his time with the school and leading the Crimson Tide to back-to-back BCS National Championships in 2011 and 2012.

In a corresponding move, the Raiders have released QB EJ Manuel. Last season, in his lone year with the Raiders, Manuel appeared in two contests and made one start, compiling 265 yards passing on 24-of-43 attempts, one touchdown and one interception for a 72.3 passer rating.

Oakland Raiders Sign Calhoun From Practice Squad

ALAMEDA, Calif. – The Oakland Raiders have signed LB Shilique Calhoun to the 53-man roster from their practice squad, the club announced Tuesday. 

Calhoun was originally selected by the club in the third round (75th overall) of the 2016 NFL Draft. Over his three seasons with the Silver and Black, he has appeared in 20 contests, totaling eight tackles (four) and one pass defensed, while also adding five special teams tackles.

In a corresponding move, the Raiders have waived DT Brian Price.

Oakland Raiders Sign Bryant and Sieg; Place DePaola on IR and Waive Hatcher

ALAMEDA, Calif. – The Oakland Raiders have signed free agent WR Martavis Bryant and LS Trent Sieg, the club announced Wednesday.

Bryant was originally acquired via trade from the Pittsburgh Steelers this past May. Now in his fifth season, Bryant was drafted by the Steelers in the fourth round (118th overall) of the 2014 NFL Draft, where he set a franchise record for total touchdowns (14) in a player’s first 16 regular season contests. In 36 career appearances, the 6-foot-4, 210-pound wide receiver has made 16 starts and compiled 126 receptions for 1,917 yards (15.2 avg.) and 17 touchdowns, adding 14 rushing attempts for 71 yards and one score. His postseason totals include 21 receptions for 322 yards, adding three touchdowns. 

Sieg originally signed with the Baltimore Ravens as an undrafted free agent following the conclusion of this year’s NFL Draft. A four-year player at Colorado State, the 6-foot-3, 240-pound long snapper appeared in 52 games for the Rams without missing a snap.

In corresponding moves, the Raiders have placed LS Andrew DePaola on the Reserve/Injured List and have waived WR Keon Hatcher.

Oakland Raiders Sign Hankins and McDonald; Place Ellis on IR

ALAMEDA, Calif. – The Oakland Raiders have signed free agents DT Johnathan Hankins and DT Clinton McDonald, the club announced Thursday. 

Now in his sixth year in the NFL, Hankins joins the Silver and Black after a one-year stint with the Indianapolis Colts, having spent the previous four years (2013-16) with the New York Giants after being selected by the club in the second round (49th overall) of the 2013 NFL Draft. Over his five-year career, the 6-foot-2, 325-pound defensive tackle has appeared in 67 contests and made 56 starts, compiling 184 tackles (113 solo), 12 sacks, seven passes defensed and three forced fumbles. Hankins has started in one postseason contest and recorded two tackles (one) and one sack. Last season, he started in all of his 15 appearances and recorded 44 stops (24), two sacks and three passes defensed in his lone season with the Colts.

McDonald enters his ninth season in the NFL, having spent the last four seasons (2014-17) with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. McDonald also played three seasons (2011-13) with the Seattle Seahawks after originally being drafted by the Cincinnati Bengals in the seventh round (249th overall) of the 2009 NFL Draft. Over his eight seasons, the 6-foot-2, 297-pound defensive tackle has appeared in 97 contests and made 36 starts, tallying 240 tackles (157), 19 sacks, two interceptions, six passes defensed and five fumble recoveries. His postseason totals include five games played with one start, totaling five tackles and two fumble recoveries. Last season, McDonald made three starts, compiling 29 stops (18), five sacks and one pass defensed.

Oakland Raiders Claim DT Brian Price

ALAMEDA, Calif. – The Oakland Raiders have claimed DT Brian Price via waivers from the Dallas Cowboys, the club announced Monday.

Price joins the Silver and Black having spent the last two seasons with both the Green Bay Packers (2016) and Dallas Cowboys (2017). An undrafted free agent out of Texas-San Antonio, the 6-foot-3, 303-pound defensive tackle has totaled nine games played and recorded eight tackles (six solo) in his career.

In a corresponding move, the Raiders have waived DT Treyvon Hester. A second-year player, Hester made the roster in 2017 after being drafted by the club in the seventh round (244th overall) of the 2017 NFL Draft. In his lone season with the Raiders, Hester appeared in 14 contests and made one start, compiling 21 tackles (12) and one forced fumble.

Oakland Raiders Sign WR Brandon LaFell; Waive Holton

ALAMEDA, Calif. – The Oakland Raiders have signed free agent WR Brandon LaFell, the club announced Monday.

LaFell enters his ninth season in the NFL after having stints with the Carolina Panthers (2010-13), New England Patriots (2014-15) and most recently with the Cincinnati Bengals (2016-17). Over his eight-year career, LaFell has played in 119 games and made 85 starts, recording 394 receptions, 5,263 yards (13.4 avg.) and 29 touchdowns. He has appeared in six postseason contests and made five starts, tallying 20 receptions for 159 yards and two touchdowns. 

Last season, the 6-foot-3, 210-pound receiver appeared in all 16 contests for the Bengals and made 15 starts. He compiled 52 receptions for 548 yards (10.5 avg.), marks that both ranked second on the team, while adding three touchdowns.

In a corresponding move, the Raiders have waived WR Johnny Holton. A third-year player, Holton made the roster in 2016 as an undrafted free agent out of Cincinnati. In his two seasons with the Silver and Black, he tallied 11 receptions for 252 yards and added three scores, while also registering 17 special teams tackles.
