STOCKTON KINGS DROP GAME TO RIO GRANDE VALLEY VIPERS 132-114

Stockton, Calif. – The Stockton Kings (13-9), the NBA G League affiliate of the Sacramento Kings, fell to the Rio Grande Valley Vipers (7-18), the NBA G League affiliate of the Houston Rockets 132-114, to start off their four-game home stand. Rio Grande guard Michael Frazier scored a game-high 32 points to go along with six rebounds and four assists. Stockton guard Isaiah Canaan led the team with 24 points, shooting 60% from three-point range.

The Vipers started the game hot with a five-point lead and would keep it for the rest of the game. By the seven-minute mark, they outscored the Kings 14-2. In the first quarter, Rio Grande shot 58.3% from the field to help them finish the quarter ahead 34-21. In the second quarter, Rio Grande would go on a 14-0 run to extend their lead to as much as 26 points over Stockton. The first half would end with a score of 72-52, with the Vipers in the lead.

In the first half, Frazier scored 11 of his 32 points. Center Ray Spalding and guard Sindaruis Thornwell each added 10 points a piece for Rio Grande Valley. Stockton center Eric Mika posted 12 points and seven rebounds in the first half. 

In the third quarter, Rio Grande Valley saw their biggest lead of the game, leading Stockton by 32 points, with the score 96-64 at the five-minute mark. Also in the third quarter, Frazier scored 16 points for Rio Grande Valley. Forward Cody Demps added 11 points for Stockton.

In the fourth quarter, Canaan scored 11 of his 26 points. Stockton would fight to trail by 14 points, with the score at 113-99 with eight minutes remaining in regulation. The Vipers would keep hold of the lead to take home the 132-114 victory. 

Canaan led Stockton with 24 points shooting 6-of-10 from three-point range, seven assists, and three rebounds. Mika contributed a double-double in his first game back with Stockton with 14 points and 10 rebounds. Demps added 23 points, seven rebounds, and two steals. 

For Rio Grande, Spalding posted a double-double ending the game with 14 points, and 12 rebounds – 11 from the defensive end. Forward William Howard added 17 points, seven rebounds, and three assists. 

Stockton will play their next three games at Stockton Arena starting on Saturday, January 11 to host the Iowa Wolves at 7 p.m. They will then host the Austin Spurs on Tuesday, January 14 and Oklahoma City on Friday, January 17  with both games tipping off at 7 p.m. Tickets can be purchased at StocktonKings.com/Tickets
