Oakland Raiders Sign S Jordan Richards

ALAMEDA, Calif. – The Oakland Raiders have signed unrestricted free agent S Jordan Richards, the club announced Friday.

Richards, a 5-foot-11, 210-pound safety, enters his fifth year in the NFL after spending the 2018 season with the Atlanta Falcons. Before being traded ahead of the 2018 campaign, Richards spent his first three seasons (2015-17) with the New England Patriots after being selected in the second round (64th overall) of the 2015 NFL Draft. Over his first four seasons, Richards has appeared in 59 contests and made 19 starts, compiling 77 tackles (60 solo), six passes defensed and two forced fumbles. In five postseason appearances, he has recorded five stops (three) as a rotational player on defense.

In his lone season with the Falcons, Richards appeared in 15 contests and made a career-high 12 starts. Richards also set career highs in tackles and passes defensed, tallying 37 and three, respectively.

From 2015-17, Richards played in 41 contests for the Patriots and made seven starts. In 2017, he recorded 22 stops during the regular season and appeared in all three postseason contests, while tallying four stops in the club’s Super Bowl LII appearance.

A native of Sacramento, Calif., Richards played in 54 games and made 44 starts over his four years (2011-14) at Stanford, compiling 247 tackles, one sack, nine interceptions including one returned for a score, 24 passes defensed and five forced fumbles. As a senior in 2014, Richards was named a team captain and earned All-Pac-12 First Team honors after posting 79 stops, three interceptions and five passes defensed.

Oakland Raiders Retain LB Jason Cabinda and Sign G Chaz Green

ALAMEDA, Calif. – The Oakland Raiders have re-signed exclusive rights free agent LB Jason Cabinda and signed unrestricted free agent G Chaz Green, the club announced Friday.

Cabinda, a 6-foot-1, 243-pound linebacker signed by the club as an undrafted free agent following the 2018 NFL Draft, spent the first six contests of 2018 on the team’s practice squad before being elevated to the active roster on Oct. 18. He appeared in 10 contests and made three starts, tallying 21 tackles (14 solo) in his rookie campaign.

A native of Flemington, N.J., Cabinda played four years for at Penn State, seeing action in 43 games with 36 starts. Cabinda finished his career with the Nittany Lions ranked ninth on the school’s all-time list with 286 tackles (115 solo), adding six career sacks, three forced fumbles, one fumble recovery, 11 passes defensed and one interception.

Green, a 6-foot-5, 318-pound guard and former third-round selection (91st overall) by the Dallas Cowboys in the 2015 NFL Draft, joined the Raiders in the middle of the 2018 campaign and appeared in four contests while making one start. Over his four seasons with the Dallas Cowboys (2015-17), New Orleans Saints (2018) and Raiders, Green has appeared in 22 contests and made seven starts.

A native Tampa, Fla., Green spent five years (2010-14) at Florida and appeared in 43 contests. As a senior, Green was voted a team captain by his peers and started in all 11 contests for the Gators.

Oakland Raiders Sign WR J.J. Nelson

ALAMEDA, Calif. – The Oakland Raiders have signed unrestricted free agent WR J.J. Nelson, the club announced Friday.

A 5-foot-10, 160-pound wide receiver, Nelson enters his fifth year in the NFL and first with the Raiders having previously spent his first four years with the Arizona Cardinals after being drafted by the club in the fifth round (159th overall) of the 2015 NFL Draft. In his first four seasons, Nelson appeared in a total of 56 contests and made 15 starts, tallying 81 receptions for 1,439 yards (17.8 avg.) and 10 touchdowns, while also adding 12 rushing attempts for 120 yards and an additional score. In two post season appearances, Nelson caught three passes for 33 yards and fielded three kickoffs for 56 return yards.

Since entering the league in 2015, Nelson’s yards per reception average of 17.8 ranks first in the NFL among players with at least 80 receptions during that span. Of Nelson’s 11 career touchdowns, five have come from at least 30 yards out, including three from 50-plus yards. 

Last season, Nelson appeared in 14 games and made two starts, totaling seven receptions for 64 yards. He appeared in 16 contests for the first time in 2017, while setting career highs across the board in 2016 with 34 receptions for 568 yards, including six touchdown receptions, while also adding four rush attempts for 83 yards and a score.

A native of Midfield, Ala., Nelson played in 46 games for UAB and made 22 starts, finishing his collegiate career with 116 receptions for 2,273 yards and 20 touchdown receptions, adding on 18 rush attempts for 90 yards and a score. He added 76 kickoff returns for 1,932 yards and five touchdowns, while tacking on 35 punt returns for 375 yards, including one returned for a score. Nelson ranks first in school history with 4,670 all-purpose yards and his five career kickoff return scores rank third all-time in Conference USA history annals.

Oakland Raiders Sign WR Tyrell Williams

ALAMEDA, Calif. – The Oakland Raiders have signed unrestricted free agent WR Tyrell Williams, the club announced Wednesday.

Originally an undrafted free agent following the 2015 NFL Draft, Williams signed with the San Diego Chargers and spent the first four seasons (2015-18) of his career with the club. Over his four-year career, Williams has appeared in 55 contests and made 37 starts, totaling 155 receptions for 2,530 yards and 17 touchdown receptions. In postseason play, Williams has appeared in two contests, making one start and compiling seven receptions for 103 yards.

Since entering the NFL in 2015, no player has tallied more touchdown receptions of at least 75 yards than Williams’ four. Additionally, his 16.3-yard average per reception since his rookie season ranks fifth in the NFL among players with at least 100 receptions. Last season, Williams appeared in all 16 contests for the third consecutive year and made 10 starts, hauling in 41 passes for 653 yards and adding five scores. 

In 2017, Williams set career highs in starts (15) and yards per reception (16.9 avg.), while setting career marks in 2016 in receptions (69), receiving yards (1,059) and touchdowns (seven). Williams led the team in both receptions and yards that season after appearing in all 16 contests for the first time in his career.

A native of Salem, Ore., Williams spent four seasons (2011-14) at Western Oregon, hauling in a school-record 165 receptions for 2,792 yards while recording 21 touchdown receptions. Williams earned first-team All-Great Northwest Athletic Conference honors from 2012-14 and was recognized as Don Hanson D-II All-Super Region Three as a senior.

Oakland Raiders Sign Trent Brown

ALAMEDA, Calif. – The Oakland Raiders have signed unrestricted free agent T Trent Brown, the club announced Wednesday.

Brown spent last season as a member of the New England Patriots after spending three years (2015-17) with the San Francisco 49ers. He has played in 47 games with 44 starts over his four-year career and has appeared in three postseason contests.

Last season, Brown helped lift New England to a victory in Super Bowl LIII, while paving the way for an offense that ranked fifth in the NFL with 393.4 yards per game during the regular season. Brown helped QB Tom Brady reach 4,000 yards passing for the 10th time in his career, while becoming the fourth NFL player to reach 6,000 completions and 70,000 passing yards in 2018.

The 6-8, 380-pounder started 28-of-31 games for the 49ers after the team selected him in the seventh round (244th overall) of the 2015 NFL Draft.

A native of Albany, Ga., Brown played two seasons at Florida, appearing in 23 games with 11 starts for the Gators during his career. As a senior, he helped pave the way for 187.7 rushing yards per game, including five games over 200 yards.

Oakland Raiders Announce Transactions

ALAMEDA, Calif. – The Oakland Raiders have signed DB Rico Gafford and DT Gabe Wright from the practice squad, the club announced Tuesday. 

Gafford, a 5-foot-10, 184-pound versatile defensive back out of Wyoming, was originally signed by the Tennessee Titans as an undrafted free agent this past May. Gafford appeared in all four preseason contests for the Titans before being signed to the Raiders’ practice squad ahead of Week 1, where he has spent his rookie campaign. Gafford appeared in 27 games and made 23 starts over his two seasons at Wyoming (2016-17), totaling 103 tackles, including 1.5 for loss, six interceptions with one returned for a touchdown, 11 passes defensed and three forced fumbles.

Wright was originally drafted by the Detroit Lions in the fourth round (113th overall) of the 2015 NFL Draft. Over his three-year career, the 6-foot-3, 309-pound defensive tackle has spent time with the Lions (2015), Cleveland Browns (2016) and most recently the Miami Dolphins in 2017. His career totals include 13 games played with one start, recording 13 tackles (nine solo) and two passes defensed. Wright appeared in three preseasons contests for the Raiders in 2018 and has spent most of the regular season on the club’s practice squad.

In corresponding moves, the Raiders have placed G Gabe Jackson on the Reserve/Injured List and waived LB Emmanuel Lamur.

Jackson, originally a third-round selection (81st overall) by the club in the 2014 NFL Draft, has made 72 starts in 73 appearances over his five-year career. In 2018, Jackson started all 13 contest at right guard for the Silver and Black.

Lamur signed with the team this past offseason as an unrestricted free agent. The seventh-year veteran has appeared in 79 contests over his career, making 19 starts. In his lone season with the Raiders, Lamur appeared in eight contests with four starts and collected 12 tackles (11).

Oakland Raiders Claim G/T Denzelle Good

ALAMEDA, Calif. – The Oakland Raiders have claimed G/T Denzelle Good via waivers from the Indianapolis Colts, the club announced Monday.

A 6-foot-5, 345-pound versatile offensive lineman, Good was originally selected in the seventh round (255th overall) by the Colts in the 2015 NFL Draft. Over his four seasons with the team, he has appeared in 26 contests at both guard and tackle and made 20 starts. Good has seen action in two contests in 2018 and made one start.

A native of Gaffney, S.C., Good played three seasons at Mars Hill and was a two-time First Team All-South Atlantic Conference choice. Good did not allow a sack during his career with the Lions.

In a corresponding move, the Raiders have waived OL Ian Silberman. Silberman signed to the team in October and appeared in two contests for the club.

Oakland Raiders Sign G Chaz Green and TE Darren Waller; Place Smith on IR

ALAMEDA, Calif. – The Oakland Raiders have signed free agents G Chaz Green and TE Darren Waller, the club announced Tuesday.

Green, a 6-foot-5, 318-pound guard is a former third-round selection (91st overall) out of Florida by the Dallas Cowboys in the 2015 NFL Draft. Over his three seasons with the club, Green appeared in 18 contests and made six starts for the Cowboys. The Tampa, Fla., native most recently had a short stint on the New Orleans Saints’ practice squad but has not appeared in game action in 2018.

Waller, a 6-foot-6, 255-pound tight end out of Georgia Tech, was originally drafted in the sixth round (240th overall) by the Ravens in the 2015 NFL Draft as a wide receiver. Waller spent three seasons with the club, appearing in 18 contests and making four starts, while tallying 12 receptions for 103 yards and two touchdowns. A native of Landover, Md., Waller has spent the 2018 campaign on Baltimore’s practice squad. 

Additionally, the club has placed DE Jacquies Smith on the Reserve/Injured List. Smith signed as a free agent ahead of Week 10 and appeared in three contests for the Silver and Black this season.

Oakland Raiders Acquire First-Round Selection, Trade WR Amari Cooper

ALAMEDA, Calif. – The Oakland Raiders have acquired a first-round selection in the 2019 NFL Draft via a trade with the Dallas Cowboys, the club announced Monday. As part of the trade terms, the Raiders have agreed to send the Cowboys WR Amari Cooper in exchange for the selection.

A first-round selection (fourth overall) by the Raiders in the 2015 NFL Draft, Cooper started in 47-of-52 career games for the club. Since joining the club, Cooper has tallied 225 receptions for 3,183 yards (14.1 avg.) and 19 touchdowns. A two-time Pro Bowler, Cooper became just the third player in NFL history to record 1,000 receiving yards and 70 receptions in each of his first two seasons (2015-16).

Last season, Cooper started in 12-of-14 contests and caught 48 passes for 680 yards (14.2 avg.), adding a career-high seven scores.

Oakland Raiders Sign OL Ian Silberman; Place T Donald Penn on IR

ALAMEDA, Calif. – The Oakland Raiders have signed OL Ian Silberman via the Tennessee Titans practice squad, the club announced Wednesday.

Silberman was originally drafted by the San Francisco 49ers in the sixth round (190th overall) of the 2015 NFL Draft. After a short stint on the New England Patriots practice squad in 2016, Silberman was signed to the Raiders practice squad, while also signing to the team’s 53-man roster in December of 2017 after spending a portion of the season with both the Indianapolis Colts and Cleveland Browns

The 6-foot-5, 305-pound offensive lineman appeared in all four preseason contests for the Silver and Black this year. Silberman has appeared in one contest in his career during his rookie campaign with the 49ers.

In a corresponding move, the Raiders have placed T Donald Penn on the Reserve/Injured List. Penn signed with the team as a free agent in 2014 and started in all 64 appearances since his arrival
