Sacramento Republic FC Sign Former Atlas FC Youth Player Luis Espino

Midfielder joins Republic FC for the remainder of the 2017 USL season.

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Sacramento Republic FC have agreed to a USL contract with midfielder Luis Espino for the remainder of the club’s 2017 season.

The signing of Luis is demonstrative of the good relationships that we have built with the CESIFUT Academy in Mexico,” said Republic FC Head Coach and Technical Director Paul Buckle. “Since losing Danny Barrera to injury earlier this season, we have been looking for a number ten and I believe that Espino is just that player.  He is very creative with the ball at his feet and will be a valuable asset for us the rest of the season.”

Espino joins Republic FC after spending the Clausura 2017 season with Atlas FC’s second division team and their U20s. The midfielder scored a goal in 15 appearances, including nine starts between the two teams.  Prior to joining Atlas, Espino played at Universidad Autónoma de Zacatecas. In the 2015-16 season Espino scored two goals in 12 appearances, including 10 starts while helping Tuzos UAZ earn promotion to the second division in Mexico. Espino and fellow Republic FC teammate Carlos Rodriguez are both products of the CESIFUT Academy in Torreón, Mexico.

Espino has joined the club and will be available for selection in Republic FC’s match versus LA Galaxy II on Saturday, Sept. 16.  Kickoff is 7:30 p.m. at Papa Murphy’s Park.  The match will be streamed live at SacRepublicFC.com/matchday-guide.

Sacramento Republic FC Sign Mexican Defender Carlos Rodriguez

19-year old defender joins Republic FC from the CESIFUT Academy

SACRAMENTO, Calif.  – Sacramento Republic FC have agreed to a contract with defender Carlos Rodriguez for the 2016 USL season. Rodriguez joins Republic FC from Mexican developmental academy, CESIFUT.

“The center back position is very important, and I now feel that area is filled with four confident center backs,” said Technical Director and Head Coach Paul Buckle. “Carlos impressed us when Graham and I visited CESIFUT Academy back in November, and again when we invited him to our training camp in Mexico. This young lad has all the tools and I believe he will be a top class center back.”

Rodriguez was first identified as a potential signing by Republic FC Head Coach and Technical Director Paul Buckle and Director of Football Graham Smith when the pair traveled to Mexico during the offseason. Rodriguez then went on trial with Republic FC during their training camp in Mexico from Feb. 5-11 before being signed to the club.

The CESIFUT Academy is an independent academy in Mexico that trains players from a young age in hopes of preparing the players for play at the professional and international level. Rodriguez has been a member of the academy since age 12.

Rodriguez will join the club immediately and be available to play in the club’s preseason friendlies. Republic FC travel to face the Fresno Fuego on Thursday, Mar. 3 at Chukchansi Park in Fresno, Calif. Kickoff is at 6:30 p.m. Tickets are on sale at FresnoFuego.com.
