Sacramento can’t overcome early struggles, Gillaspie makes rehab debut
West Sacramento, CA – The Sacramento River Cats (15-25) returned home from a seven-game road trip to a packed Raley Field crowd but fell in game one of their four-game set 6-0 to the Nashville Sounds (19-19).
Nashville jumped out to an early lead, scoring two runs in the first off starter Joan Gregorio. Gregorio entered play tonight with the second best ERA in the PCL (2.04) but struggled tonight as the Sounds pushed four more runs across in the fourth.
The River Cats offense managed just three hits tonight, one of which came from third baseman Conor Gillaspie who was making his rehab debut with the club. The Sacramento defense committed more errors (four) than the offense managed hits. The four errors are a season-high.
Left-hander Michael Roth (2-3, 4.54) will face Nashville’s Chris Bassitt (1-0, 4.00) in tomorrow night’s game two. First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m. (PT) and the game can be heard live online at rivercats.com and on the air on Money 105.5 FM.
