Oakland Raiders Return Cowser and Holton to Practice Squad

ALAMEDA, Calif. – The Oakland Raiders have signed LB James Cowser and WR Johnny Holton to the practice squad, the club announced Wednesday.

Cowser was originally signed by the club as an undrafted free agent in 2016. Earlier this season, he was elevated to the active roster from the club’s practice squad but has not seen game action in 2018. Now in his third year, he has appeared in 22 contests, made 28 tackles (21), one sack, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery.

Holton originally signed with the team as an undrafted free agent out of Cincinnati following the conclusion of the 2016 NFL Draft. Holton spent the first 11 weeks of the 2018 campaign on the club’s practice squad before being elevated to the active roster and making his season debut in Week 12. Over his first three years, Holton has appeared in 32 games, making one start and totaling 11 receptions for 252 yards (22.9 avg.), adding three scores.

In a corresponding move, the team has released WR ArDarius Stewart from the practice squad.

Oakland Raiders Waive Johnny Holton

ALAMEDA, Calif. – The Oakland Raiders have waived WR Johnny Holton, the club announced Monday.

Holton originally signed with the team as an undrafted free agent out of Cincinnati following the conclusion of the 2016 NFL Draft. Holton spent the first 11 weeks of the 2018 campaign on the club’s practice squad before being elevated to the active roster and making his season debut in Week 12. Over his first three years, Holton has appeared in 32 games, making one start and totaling 11 receptions for 252 yards (22.9 avg.), adding three scores.

Additionally, the club has released CB Arrion Springs from the practice squad.

Oakland Raiders Elevate Holton; Make Practice Squad Additions

ALAMEDA, Calif. – The Oakland Raiders have elevated WR Johnny Holton to the active roster from the practice squad, the club announced Wednesday.

Holton, a 6-foot-1, 190-pound receiver originally signed with the team as an undrafted free agent out of Cincinnati following the conclusion of the 2016 NFL Draft. Holton made the active roster following his first training camp and appeared in 31 games over his first two seasons, making one start and totaling 11 receptions for 252 yards (22.9 avg.), adding three scores. Holton has spent the 2018 campaign on the club’s practice squad, where he participated in a short stint as a converted cornerback.

Additionally, the club has signed WR Saeed Blacknall and CB Arrion Springs to the practice squad. 

Blacknall appeared in his first NFL action in Week 11 after being elevated to the club’s active roster. Originally an undrafted free agent out of Penn State, Blacknall played in 48 contests and made 15 starts, totaling 50 receptions for 979 yards (19.6 avg.) and seven touchdowns.

Springs is a 5-foot-11, 208-pound cornerback that was originally signed by the Kansas City Chiefs this past offseason as an undrafted free agent out of Oregon. Springs played four years (2014-17) with the Ducks, appearing in 40 contests and making 137 tackles (97 solo), two sacks, two interceptions, 42 passes defensed, three forced fumbles and one fumble recovery. A product of San Antonio, Texas, Springs has spent the 2018 regular season between the Chiefs’, New Orleans Saints’ and Cleveland Browns’ practice squad.

Oakland Raiders Sign WR Brandon LaFell; Waive Holton

ALAMEDA, Calif. – The Oakland Raiders have signed free agent WR Brandon LaFell, the club announced Monday.

LaFell enters his ninth season in the NFL after having stints with the Carolina Panthers (2010-13), New England Patriots (2014-15) and most recently with the Cincinnati Bengals (2016-17). Over his eight-year career, LaFell has played in 119 games and made 85 starts, recording 394 receptions, 5,263 yards (13.4 avg.) and 29 touchdowns. He has appeared in six postseason contests and made five starts, tallying 20 receptions for 159 yards and two touchdowns. 

Last season, the 6-foot-3, 210-pound receiver appeared in all 16 contests for the Bengals and made 15 starts. He compiled 52 receptions for 548 yards (10.5 avg.), marks that both ranked second on the team, while adding three touchdowns.

In a corresponding move, the Raiders have waived WR Johnny Holton. A third-year player, Holton made the roster in 2016 as an undrafted free agent out of Cincinnati. In his two seasons with the Silver and Black, he tallied 11 receptions for 252 yards and added three scores, while also registering 17 special teams tackles.
