Las Vegas Raiders Sign CB Prince Amukamara

ALAMEDA, Calif. – The Las Vegas Raiders have signed unrestricted free agent CB Prince Amukamara, the team announced Monday.

Amukamara enters his 10th season in the league and first with the Silver and Black, having spent the past three seasons (2017-19) with the Chicago Bears, while also spending time with the Jacksonville Jaguars (2016) after five seasons with the New York Giants (2011-15). A first-round selection (19th overall) by the Giants in the 2011 NFL Draft, the 2012 Super Bowl XLVI champion has appeared in 113 contests with 99 starts over his career, tallying 477 tackles (417 solo), 10 interceptions, including one returned for a touchdown, 78 passes defensed, six forced fumbles and three fumble recoveries. In postseason action, Amukamara has appeared in five contests and made one start with the Bears in 2018, compiling three tackles (two) and one pass defensed.

Last season, the 6-foot, 204-pound cornerback started in every appearance (15) for the second consecutive season. He logged 53 stops (44) and the second-most passes defensed (10) on the team, while also posting one forced fumble and one fumble recovery. Over his three seasons with the Bears, Amukamara started in 42-of-44 games, totaling 167 stops (146), three interceptions, including one returned for a score and 29 passes defensed, marks that all ranked top-5 on the team during that span.

In his lone year with the Jaguars in 2016, he started in 12-of-14 contests and tallied 49 tackles (46) and ranked third on the team with six passes defensed.

Over his first five seasons with the Giants, Amukamara started in 45-of-55 career contests, recording 261 tackles (225), seven interceptions and 43 passes defensed, marks that once again each ranked in the top-5 on the team during his time with the franchise. He also added three forced fumbles and one fumble recovery.

A native of Glendale, Ariz., Amukamara played in 49 games with 31 starts over four seasons (2007-10) at Nebraska, posting 161 tackles, including six for loss, four sacks, five interceptions, 26 passes defensed, three forced fumbles and one fumble recovery. As a senior in 2010, the team’s top defensive player was a unanimous All-American selection and All-Big 12 Conference First Team honoree, while also collecting Big 12 Defensive Player of the Year accolades.

In a corresponding move, the Raiders have Waived/Failed Physical CB Nick Nelson.

Las Vegas Raiders Sign RB Devontae Booker

ALAMEDA, Calif. – The Las Vegas Raiders have signed unrestricted free agent RB Devontae Booker, the club announced Monday.

Booker joins the Silver and Black following his first four seasons with the Denver Broncos (2016-19), after originally being selected by the club in the fourth round (136th overall) of the 2016 NFL Draft. Booker has appeared in 61 contests with six starts over his career, tallying 289 rushing attempts for 1,103 yards and six touchdowns, while adding 105 receptions for 872 yards and an additional score.

In 2019, the 5-foot-11, 219-pound rusher appeared in 16 contests for the second consecutive season and third time overall in his career. The two seasons prior, Booker compiled over 450 scrimmage yards in each campaign, while tallying a career-high 38 receptions in 2018 and tying his career high with 275 receiving yards.

Booker’s best statistical season came during his rookie campaign in 2016, as he appeared in all 16 games and made six starts, becoming just the 13th rookie in team history and first since 2009 to lead the club in rushing. Booker posted 174 carries for 612 yards and four touchdowns, while also notching 31 receptions for 265 yards and one score.

A native of Sacramento, Calif., Booker started in 19-of-23 contests at Utah after beginning his collegiate career at American River College. As a senior in 2015, Booker posted 1,261 rushing yards on 268 carries with 11 touchdowns in 10 games before suffering a season-ending knee injury. He was named a Maxwell Award and Doak Walker Award semifinalist and was also selected All-Pac-12 Second Team.

Las Vegas Raiders Re-sign De’Mornay Pierson-El

ALAMEDA, Calif. – The Las Vegas Raiders have re-signed free agent WR De’Mornay Pierson-El, the club announced Thursday.

Pierson-El enters his second stint with the Raiders, having spent training camp in 2019 on the team’s roster and appearing in all four preseason games, tallying nine receptions for 70 yards and a touchdown, while also taking over punt return duties, logging 15 returns for 81 yards. 

A 5-foot-8, 194-pound wide receiver, Pierson-El most recently appeared in the XFL as a member of the St. Louis BattleHawks. In five contests for the club, Pierson-El hauled in 23-of-26 targets for 209 yards (9.1 avg.) and added two receiving touchdowns.

Prior to joining the Silver and Black during the 2019 offseason, he spent time with the Salt Lake Stallions in the Alliance of American Football, recording 36 receptions for 414 yards (11.5 avg.) and one touchdown. Pierson-El’s receptions and receiving yards both led the team through eight contests. Ahead of his time with the AAF, Pierson-El was signed as an undrafted free agent by the Washington Redskins and also appeared with the Montreal Alouettes of the Canadian Football League

A native of Alexandria, Va., Pierson-El played four seasons (2014-17) at Nebraska. He appeared in 43 games and recorded 100 receptions for 1,309 yards (13.1 avg.) and added 11 touchdown receptions, while also rushing 26 times for 67 yards.

Las Vegas Raiders Release Tahir Whitehead

ALAMEDA, Calif. – The Las Vegas Raiders have released LB Tahir Whitehead, the team announced Monday.

Whitehead originally signed with the club as a free agent ahead of the 2018 season. In two years with the Silver and Black, Whitehead started in all 32 contests, compiling back-to-back 100-plus-tackle campaigns, leading the team in both seasons. Over his eight-year career with the Detroit Lions (2012-17) and Raiders, Whitehead has appeared in 125 contests with 86 starts, recorded 600 tackles (435 solo), three sacks, five interceptions, 24 passes defensed, three forced fumbles and five fumble recoveries.

LAS VEGAS Raiders Sign Quentin Poling

ALAMEDA, Calif. – The Las Vegas Raiders have signed free agent LB Quentin Poling, the team announced Thursday.

Poling, a 6-foot-1, 235-pound linebacker, returns to the Raiders having spent the majority of the 2019 campaign on the club’s practice squad and appearing in one contest on special teams. He spent the entirety of his rookie campaign on the Miami Dolphins’ practice squad after originally being selected by the club in the seventh round (227th overall) of the 2018 NFL Draft.

The Gomer, Ohio, native played four seasons at Ohio before entering the NFL, starting in 50 contests and making 374 tackles (217), 18.5 sacks, seven interceptions, 21 passes defensed and seven forced fumbles, while also collecting a program-record 44 tackles for loss. As a senior in 2017, Poling started all 13 games and earned first-team All-MAC honors after leading the program with 107 tackles, adding 5.5 sacks, four passes defensed and three forced fumbles.

Las Vegas Raiders Sign Jalen Richard To Extension

ALAMEDA, Calif. – The Las Vegas Raiders have signed RB Jalen Richard to a two-year contract extension, the team announced Wednesday.

Richard originally signed with the Raiders after participating on a tryout basis at the team’s rookie mini-camp as an undrafted free agent following the conclusion of the 2016 NFL Draft. In four seasons with the Silver and Black, Richard has appeared in 64 contests and made two starts, logging 233 rushing attempts for 1,170 yards and three touchdowns, adding 160 receptions and an additional 1,380 yards and three scores. Richard has also played a large role on special teams, tallying 34 kickoff returns for 680 yards and 68 punt returns for 485 yards.

In 2019, Richard appeared in all 16 contests for the fourth consecutive year. He tallied 39 carries for 145 yards, adding 36 receptions and 323 yards. His 36 receptions were tied for fourth-most on the squad in 2019. 

In 2018, Richard was a major offensive contributor, as he tallied a career-high 68 receptions, tied for most on the club and also tied with Marcus Allen for the fourth-most receptions in a single season by a Raiders running back. Richard’s 104 receptions since 2018 rank eighth-most among all running backs in the league. During his 2017 campaign, he totaled 531 yards from scrimmage and scored two times on offense. 

As a rookie in 2016, Richard made the initial 53-man active roster out of training camp. In his NFL debut and on his first career carry, Richard scored his first career touchdown on a 75-yard rush midway through the fourth quarter and became just the fourth player ever to score on a 75-or-more yard run in his NFL debut, joining the likes of Oran Pape (1930), Alan Ameche (1955) and Ottis Anderson (1979). Additionally, his average of 5.9 yards per carry ranked first in the NFL among players with at least 80 rushing attempts that season. He was also recognized as a Pro Bowl alternate as a return specialist after posting 17 kickoff returns for 402 yards (23.6 avg.) and 34 punt returns for 306 yards (9.0 avg.).

A native of Alexandria, La., Richard played four years for Southern Miss, appearing in 41 games and making 29 starts. As a Golden Eagle, he totaled 2,082 career rushing yards on 397 carries and logged 19 touchdowns, while also hauling in 83 passes for 675 yards and an additional five scores.
