Sacramento Kings Sign Buddy Hield to Contract Extension

The Sacramento Kings have signed guard Buddy Hield to a multi-year contract extension, according to General Manager Vlade Divac. Per team policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.

“Buddy has made tremendous growth each season since joining the team and we are thrilled that he will remain a King as we continue to build an exciting future here in Sacramento,” said Divac. “He has quickly established himself as an elite shooter in the league and is an important part of our young, dynamic core.”

Hield is entering his fourth season in the NBA and has accrued averages of 14.9 points (.446 FG%, .419 3pt%, .874 FT%), 4.0 rebounds, 2.0 assists, and 26.8 minutes per game in 244 games (149 starts) with the New Orleans Pelicans (2016-17) and the Sacramento Kings (2016-current). The sixth overall pick of the 2016 NBA Draft by the Pelicans amassed 20.7 points (.458 FG%, .427 3pt%, .886 FT%), 5.0 rebounds, 2.5 assists, and 31.9 minutes per game as he played all 82 games (all starts) during the 2018-19 campaign for the Kings. Hield set career-highs in points, rebounds and assists per game as well as free-throw percentage.

The 6-foot-4, 220-pound guard also set a Kings single-season franchise record for 3-pointers made in 2018-19 with 278 made threes and is one of five players in NBA history with 275 or more 3-point field goals made in a single season. Hield was fourth in the NBA during the 2018-19 season in 3-point field goals made (278) and seventh in the NBA in 3-point field goal percentage (.427%) while the Bahamian native participated in the 2019 Mtn Dew 3-Point Contest in Charlotte, NC as part of All-Star Saturday Night festivities.

In Kings annals, Hield ranks first in 3-point field goal percentage (.429), fourth in 3-pointers made (513) and third in free-throw percentage among franchise leaders.
