Oakland Raiders Claim DE Jeremiah Valoaga

ALAMEDA, Calif. – The Oakland Raiders have claimed DE Jeremiah Valoaga via waivers from the San Francisco 49ers, the club announced Tuesday.

Originally a 2017 undrafted free agent, the 6-foot-6, 275-pound defensive end signed with the Detroit Lions as a rookie out of UNLV. Over his first three seasons, Valoaga has appeared in 13 contests between the Lions and 49ers, while also spending the 2018 campaign on the Miami Dolphins’ practice squad. His career totals include seven tackles, one sack and one pass defensed. 

A native of Oxnard, Calif., Valoaga totaled 87 tackles, 8.5 sacks, a forced fumble, and seven pass defenses during his time (2012-16) with the Rebels.

In a corresponding move, the Raiders have placed CB Nick Nelson on the Reserve/Injured List, who was promoted to the active roster ahead of Week 15 and appeared in each of the last two contests on the special teams unit.

Oakland Raiders Sign Olsen Pierre and Eric Tomlinson and Promote Nick Nelson

ALAMEDA, Calif. – The Oakland Raiders have signed free agents DL Olsen Pierre and TE Eric Tomlinson and have promoted CB Nick Nelson from the practice squad, the club announced Wednesday.

Pierre, a 6-foot-4, 293-pound defensive tackle in his third year in the NFL, joins the Raiders having spent the first nine games of the 2019 campaign with the New York Giants. Pierre was originally signed by the Chicago Bears as an undrafted free agent in 2015 before spending the majority of his rookie campaign on the Arizona Cardinals’ practice squad. He was later signed as a reserve/future free agent by the Cardinals in 2016 and spent three seasons (2016-18) on the club’s active roster. Since entering the league, Pierre has appeared in 33 games and made eight starts, totaling 50 tackles (35 solo), 7.5 sacks, two passes defensed and one forced fumble.

Tomlinson, a 6-foot-6, 263-pound fourth-year tight end joins the Silver and Black after appearing in three contests with the New York Giants this season and an additional two with the New England Patriots. Tomlinson was originally an undrafted free agent signed by the Houston Texans, where he spent all of 2015 and a portion of 2016 on the club’s practice squad before signing to the New York Jets (2016-18). Over his career, Tomlinson has appeared in 41 contests and made 31 starts, tallying 17 receptions for 194 yards and one touchdown.

Nelson, originally the club’s fourth-round selection (110th overall) in the 2018 NFL Draft, re-joins the active roster having appeared in 11 games as a rookie, making three starts and compiling 17 tackles (11 solo), one pass defensed and one fumble recovery. 

Additionally, the Raiders have signed TE Paul ButlerLB Te’von Coney and OL Kyle Kalis to the team’s practice squad.

In a corresponding move, the team has released TE Cole Wick from its practice squad.

Oakland Raiders Announce Practice Squad

ALAMEDA, Calif. – The Oakland Raiders have signed the following 10 players to their practice squad, the club announced Monday. RB Damarea CrockettLB Justin Phillips and TE Eric Saubert are the only practice squad signees that were not with the team during training camp this year.

Crockett: Originally signed by the Houston Texans as an undrafted free agent this past May…Played three seasons (2016-18) at Missouri, appearing in 29 games over his career…Recorded 2,252 rushing yards and 19 TDs on 380 rushing attempts, adding 137 receiving yards and two additional scores…Posted 709 rushing yards and seven TDs on 147 carries as a senior, adding 12 receptions for 88 yards and a receiving TD.

Phillips: Originally signed by the Dallas Cowboys as an undrafted free agent this past offseason…Spent five years (2014-18) at Oklahoma State, playing four seasons and appearing in 42 contests, compiling 221 tackles (146 solo), including 23 for loss, 6.5 sacks, three INTs including two returned for TDs, six passes defensed, six forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries…Was a team captain and team MVP as a senior, earning All-Big 12 recognition after posting 98 tackles as a senior.

Saubert: Originally selected by the Atlanta Falcons in the fifth round (174th overall) of the 2017 NFL Draft…Spent his first two seasons with the Falcons, appearing in 30 contests and making one start, compiling five receptions for 48 yards…Appeared in all 16 contests in 2018 for the first time in his career.

Oakland Raiders Sign Fourth-Round Pick CB Nick Nelson

ALAMEDA, Calif. – The Oakland Raiders have signed fourth-round draft pick CB Nick Nelson, the club announced Monday.

Nelson was selected 110th overall by the Raiders in the 2018 NFL Draft. He spent two seasons at Hawaii before playing one year at Wisconsin, appearing in 37 games collectively. He totaled 124 tackles (95 solo), 42 passes defensed, one sack and two forced fumbles over his career. Nelson was named second-team All-American by CBS and first-team All-Big Ten in 2017 and earned All-Mountain West Honorable Mention recognition in 2015.

In 2017, the 5-foot-11, 200-pound cornerback started all 14 games, leading the nation and setting a school record with 21 passes defensed, adding 35 tackles (26). Nelson also returned 24 punts for 206 yards (8.6 avg.) with one touchdown.
