Sacramento Republic FC Sign Midfielder Chase Minter

Minter was selected 21st overall in the 2016 MLS SuperDraft by the Columbus Crew.

SACRAMENTO, Calif.Sacramento Republic FC have agreed to a contract with midfielder Chase Minter for the 2016 USL season. Minter was the 21st overall pick in the 2016 MLS SuperDraft by the Columbus Crew after playing collegiately at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo.

“We are delighted to bring in Chase, a player we found at Cal Poly while scouting the college system,” said Republic FC Head Coach and Technical Director Paul Buckle. “He is a player that can play two or three positions, but mainly as a left winger. He is full of energy, has an incredible work rate, but is also very comfortable on the ball.”

Minter played four seasons with Cal Poly from 2012-2015, appearing in 77 matches, including 67 starts. Minter recorded 21 assists and scored 16 goals in four seasons. He recorded back-to-back seven goal seasons (2014, 2015) and had over five assists in three straight seasons (2013-2015). Minter lead Cal Poly in goals and assists in each of the last two seasons.

Minter also played with the Ventura County Fusion (PDL) from 2013-2014. He appeared in 17 matches over two seasons scoring three goals and recording four assists in 1,094 minutes played.

Sacramento Republic FC kick off their 2016 USL season on Friday, Mar. 25 when they travel to Tukwila, Wash. to take on Seattle Sounders FC 2. Kickoff is 7:30 p.m. at the Starfire Sports Complex. Sacramento Republic FC Sign Midfielder Matt LaGrassa

Elk Grove native joins Sacramento Republic FC on first professional contract.

SACRAMENTO, Calif.Sacramento Republic FC have agreed to a contract with free agent midfielder Matt LaGrassa for the 2016 USL season. LaGrassa, an Elk Grove, Calif. native, joins Sacramento Republic FC after playing soccer collegiately at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo.

“Matt is a young player that we have very high hopes for at the club,” said Sacramento Republic FC Head Coach and Technical Director Paul Buckle. “I had the opportunity to see him at Cal Poly and he is a midfielder that is always looking to be on the ball. This is something we want and we feel he will really improve our roster. He is also a local player which is a big plus for us in our efforts to support the growth of local talent for U.S. Soccer.”

LaGrassa joins Sacramento Republic FC after spending the last five years playing at Cal Poly. After redshirting his freshman year, LaGrassa appeared in 77 matches from 2012-2015, starting 57, scoring 18 total goals and recording eight assists. La Grassa graduated from Cal Poly with a Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology in 2015.

“Being from Sacramento, I am very excited to start my professional career at home,” said LaGrassa. “I think this will be a great opportunity for me as a player in a place where I can make the fans happy, including my family and friends. I believe Sacramento Republic FC is the best USL franchise in the country and the best place for me to continue to grow as a person and a player.”

LaGrassa also played in the PDL with the Des Moines Menace and Ventura County Fusion. He played 1,864 minutes in four years, scoring four goals. The Elk Grove native played high school soccer at Pleasant Grove High School and club soccer at CYSA Cal North ODP.

Sacramento Republic FC Re-Sign Midfielder Danny Barrera

SACRAMENTO, Calif.  – Sacramento Republic FC reached an agreement with Danny Barrera to retain the midfielder on the club’s roster for the 2016 season. Barrera originally joined the club midway through the 2015 season.

“I am thrilled that Danny has committed to the club,” said Head Coach and Technical Director Paul Buckle. “I feel that he is someone that showed us going into the end of last season what he can do. He is a central player for us in the midfield, a creative player. He has flourished and played nearly every match for us since joining the club. He is someone that is capable of unlocking defenses and continuing his career to play at an even higher division.”

Barrera signed with Republic FC on June 6, 2015, appearing in 20 matches, including 16 USL starts and the club’s lone 2015 playoff match. Barrera recorded two goals and three assists in his 1,128 USL minutes and scored his first goal with Sacramento Republic FC, a match-winning goal, against Arizona United SC on June 13, 2015.

Prior to joining Republic FC, Barrera spent three seasons in the NASL, appearing in over 50 matches for the Atlanta Silverbacks, San Antonio Scorpions and Carolina Railhawks from 2012-2015. He scored seven NASL goals. Barrera also appeared in 45 matches for the Ventura County Fusion, scoring 13 goals during his time with the PDL club. As a collegiate player, Barrera appeared in 66 matches for UC Santa Barbara from 2008-2010, scoring 10 goals and recording 22 assists. Republic FC defender James Kiffe and Barrera were teammates for the Gauchos in the 2009 and 2010 seasons.

Sacramento Republic FC Signs Third Year NASL Veteran Midfielder Danny Barrera

Barrera appeared in 66 matches for UC Santa Barbara from 2008-2010, scoring 10 goals and recording 22 assists. He and Republic FC defender James Kiffe were teammates for the Gauchos in the 2009 and 2010 seasons. Barrera also appeared in 45 matches for the Ventura County Fusion, scoring 13 goals.
