Oakland Raiders Announce Transactions

ALAMEDA, Calif. – The Oakland Raiders have signed free agents LB Will Compton, C Erik Magnusonand DT Terrell McClain, the club announced Wednesday.

Compton: Has appeared in 68 games and made 35 starts over his seven years in the NFL, seeing game action with both the Washington Redskins (2014-17) and the Tennessee Titans (2018) and totaling 274 tackles (163 solo), one sack, three INTs, 12 passes defensed, two forced fumbles and three fumble recoveries…Posted career highs in 2016 with the Redskins in tackles (104 solo), passes defensed (five) and fumble recoveries (two), while also adding one forced fumble and one INT.

Magnuson: Has appeared in eight games and made three starts over his first two seasons in the NFL with the San Francisco 49ers after originally being signed as an undrafted free agent in 2017…Spent the first eight weeks of 2019 on the Buffalo Bills’ practice squad…Appeared in 46 games and made 37 starts along the offensive line during his five-year career at Michigan…Earned First Team All-Big 10 honors in 2016 after starting all 12 games as a senior. 

McClain: Originally drafted by the Carolina Panthers in the third round (65th overall) of the 2011 NFL Draft and also made stints with New England Patriots (2012), Houston Texans (2012-13), Dallas Cowboys (2014-16), Washington Redskins (2017, Atlanta Falcons (2018), while most recently playing in two contests for the Kansas City Chiefs this year…Over his nine-year career, has appeared in 89 contests and made 34 starts, totaling 129 tackles (85 solo), 7.5 sacks, three forced fumbles and three fumble recoveries.

In corresponding moves, the Raiders have waived LB Dakota Allen and released DE Kasim Edebali andDT Corey Liuget.

Oakland Raiders Sign Dorleant And Holsey; Waive Cheevers and Townsend

NAPA, Calif. – The Oakland Raiders have signed free agents DB Makinton Dorleant and CB Joshua Holsey, the club announced Tuesday.

Dorleant re-joins the Raiders having spent the offseason program with the team after signing as a reserve/future free agent this past January. Dorleant originally joined the club as a member of the practice squad ahead of the team’s regular season finale in 2018. The 5-foot-11, 182-pound defensive back also made stops with the Baltimore Ravens and Kansas City Chiefs last season while spending his first two years (2016-17) in the NFL with the Green Bay Packers. Over his career, Dorleant has appeared in four contests.

A native of Naples, Fla., Dorleant played three seasons (2013-15) at Northern Iowa, starting 39-of-40 games with the program. As a Panther, he compiled 138 tackles (104 solo), two interceptions, 30 passes defensed, six forced fumbles and two fumbles recoveries. 

Holsey, a former seventh-round selection (235th overall) in the 2017 NFL Draft by the Washington Redskins, joins the Raiders for his third year in the NFL after spending his first two with the Redskins. Over his first two years, Holsey has appeared in 13 games, seeing action primarily on special teams while adding two tackles and one fumble recovery on defense.

A native of Fairburn Ga., the 5-foot-11, 195-pound Holsey appeared in 44 games and made 31 starts during his career (2012-16) at Auburn. With the Tigers, he compiled 118 tackles (96), four interceptions and 19 passes defensed.

In corresponding moves, the Raiders have waived CB Hamp Cheevers and P Johnny Townsend.

Townsend was drafted by the club in the fifth round (173rd overall) of the 2018 NFL Draft. In his lone season with the team, Townsend appeared in all 16 contests and punted 70 times for 3,022 yards (43.2 avg.) while recording a 38.3 net average and pinning the opponent inside the 20-yard line 17 times.

Oakland Raiders Sign RB Mack Brown

NAPA, Calif. – The Oakland Raiders have signed free agent RB Mack Brown, the club announced Saturday.

Brown, a 5-foot-11, 213-pound running back, joins the Raiders after most recently spending a portion of the 2018 season on the Washington Redskins’ practice squad. Brown began his career as an undrafted free agent in 2015 and later signed with the Houston Texans. He spent the majority of his rookie season on the Redskins’ practice squad and appeared in 12 games over three seasons (2015-17) with the club prior to his stint with the Minnesota Vikings (2017-18). Over his career, Brown has appeared in 13 games, compiling 16 rush attempts for 111 yards and one score, while adding two receptions for nine yards.

A native of Clarkston, Ga., Brown attended Florida for five seasons (2010-14) and appeared in 49 games before entering the NFL. During his time with the Gators, he recorded 210 carries for 805 yards and four touchdowns, while hauling in 18 passes for an additional 78 yards.

In a corresponding move, the Raiders have waived G Lukayus McNeil, who signed with the team this past spring as an undrafted free agent.

Oakland Raiders Sign WR Pierson-El

ALAMEDA, Calif. – The Oakland Raiders have signed free agent WR De’Mornay Pierson-El, the club announced Thursday.

Pierson-El enters his first year with the Raiders, having most recently been with the Salt Lake Stallions in the American Alliance Football league. Before joining the AAF, Pierson-El spent time with the Washington Redskins after being signed by the club as an undrafted free agent, while also making a short stint with the Montreal Alouettes of the Canadian Football League

During his time with the Stallions, the 5-foot-9, 195-pound wide receiver recorded 36 receptions for 414 yards (11.5 avg.) and one touchdown. Pierson-El’s receptions and receiving yards both led the team through eight contests. 

A native of Alexandria, Va., Pierson-El played four seasons (2014-17) at Nebraska. He appeared in 43 games and recorded 100 receptions for 1,309 yards (13.1 avg.) and added 11 touchdown receptions, while also rushing 26 times for 67 yards. 

In a corresponding move, the Raiders have waived WR Saeed Blacknall. A rookie this past season, Blacknall spent the majority of the 2018 campaign on the club’s practice squad and was signed as a reserve/future free agent this past January.

Oakland Raiders Sign G Jonathan Cooper

ALAMEDA, Calif. – The Oakland Raiders have signed free agent G Jonathan Cooper, the club announced Monday.

Cooper signs with the Raiders after five NFL seasons with the Washington Redskins, Dallas Cowboys, Cleveland Browns and Arizona Cardinals. He has appeared in 46 career games with 31 starts. Cooper originally entered the league with the Cardinals as a first-round draft pick (seventh overall) in 2013.

Last season, the 6-foot-2, 308-pounder started all four games he appeared in for Washington after spending the offseason with the San Francisco 49ers.

Cooper set a career high with 14 games played in 2015 with Arizona and started all 13 games he appeared in during his lone season with Dallas in 2017.

A native of Wilmington, N.C., Cooper started a school-record 48 games for North Carolina at left guard. A three-time All-ACC selection, Cooper earned first-team All-American honors as a senior and was named the recipient of the 2012 Jacobs Blocking Trophy as the best lineman in the ACC

In a corresponding move, the Raiders have waived WR Montay Crockett.

Oakland Raiders Sign Crockett And Langley; Waive Dorleant And Meander

ALAMEDA, Calif. – The Oakland Raiders have signed free agents WR Montay Crockett and CB Isaiah Langley, the club announced Tuesday.

Crockett was originally signed by the Green Bay Packers as an undrafted free agent following the 2017 NFL Draft. The 6-foot, 184-pound wide receiver has also spent time with the Houston Texans, Arizona Cardinals and Washington Redskins. Crockett was elevated to the Jaguars’ active roster prior to Week 17 of the 2017 campaign but did not appear in a game. While with Georgia Southern (2013-16), he appeared in 47 contests for and totaled 32 receptions for 535 yards and three touchdowns, adding 15 carries for 144 yards and two additional scores for the program.

Langley enters the NFL as an undrafted free agent after playing four years (2015-18) at USC, appearing 33 contests and tallying 105 tackles (79 solo), one interception and 13 passes defensed. As a senior in 2018, the 6-foot, 175-pound cornerback recorded a career-high 46 stops (36), adding his first career interception and six passes defensed.

In corresponding moves, the Raiders have waived DB Makinton Dorleant and S Montrel Meander.

Oakland Raiders Sign WR Ryan Grant

ALAMEDA, Calif. – The Oakland Raiders have signed unrestricted free agent WR Ryan Grant, the club announced Wednesday.

Grant, a 6-foot, 204-pound receiver originally drafted in the fifth round (142nd overall) of the 2014 NFL Draft by the Washington Redskins, spent the 2018 campaign with the Indianapolis Colts after playing his first four years (2014-17) with Washington. In five seasons, Grant has appeared in 78 career games and made 25 starts, compiling 119 receptions for 1,319 yards and seven touchdowns.

In 2018, Grant appeared in 14 contests and made a career-high 10 starts for the Colts. In the regular season, he tallied 35 receptions for 334 yards, marks that each ranked fifth on the squad, while adding one receiving touchdown. 

From 2014-17, Grant appeared in all 64 contests for the Redskins and made 15 starts. He set single-season career highs across the board in 2017, tallying 45 receptions for 573 yards and four touchdown receptions. Both his receptions and receiving scores ranked second on the club that season, while hisreceiving yards ranked third.

A native of Beaumont, Texas, Grant played at Tulane from 2009-13, appearing in 47 contests while making 31 starts. He finished his career with the Green Wave compiling 196 receptions for 2,769 yards while adding 21 touchdowns. As a senior in 2013, Grant led the school for the second consecutive season in receptions (77), yards receiving (1,039) and receiving scores (nine). In 2012, he led Conference USA in receiving yards per game with a 95.8-yard average en route to being named All-Conference USA by league coaches.

Oakland Raiders Sign TE Derek Carrier

ALAMEDA, Calif. – The Oakland Raiders have signed unrestricted free agentTE Derek Carrier, the club announced Thursday.

Carrier, 27, was a member of the Los Angeles Rams in 2017, playing in 14 games with three starts and tallying eight receptions for 71 yards (8.9 avg.).

The 6-foot-4, 244-pounder originally signed with the Raiders as an undrafted free agent in 2012, and has since made stops with the Philadelphia Eagles, San Francisco 49ers, New Orleans Saints, Washington Redskins and Rams.

In 50 career games with 16 starts, Carrier has totaled 36 receptions for 327 yards (9.1 avg.) and one touchdown, while also adding three kickoff returns for 41 yards.

Carrier attended Beloit College (Wis.), where he earned All-Midwest Conference honors twice and was named the Wisconsin Football Coaches Association Private College Player of the Year in 2011. In 39 games with the Buccaneers, the Edgerton, Wis., native set school records in receptions (189), receiving yards (3,111) and receiving touchdowns (29).

Oakland Raiders Sign CB David Amerson To Four-Year Contract Extension

ALAMEDA, Calif. – The Oakland Raiders have signed CB David Amerson to a four-year contract extension, the club announced Tuesday.

Amerson joined the Raiders in September 2015 via a waiver claim from the Washington Redskins, where he played from 2013-15. In 14 games for the Silver and Black last year, he set a single-season franchise record with 26 passes defensed to go along with career highs in tackles (62) and interceptions (four). Amerson also set a single-game franchise record when he posted six passes defensed in the team’s victory over the Tennessee Titans on Nov. 29, and added his second career touchdown when he returned an interception 24 yards for the score in the season finale at Kansas City.

For his career, the 6-1, 205-pounder has played in 47 games with 35 starts, totaling 170 tackles (148 solo), six interceptions (two returned for touchdowns), 44 passes defensed and one forced fumble in three seasons with the Redskins and Raiders.

The Greensboro, N.C., native was originally drafted by Washington in the second round (51st overall) of the 2013 NFL Draft. Amerson played in 39 games over three seasons at North Carolina State from 2010-12, where he totaled 18 career interceptions, tied for third on the ACC’s all-time list.

Oakland Raiders Claim CB David Amerson

ALAMEDA, Calif. – The Oakland Raiders have claimed CB David Amerson via waivers from the Washington Redskins, the club announced Tuesday.

Amerson was originally drafted by the Redskins in the second round (51st overall) of the 2013 NFL Draft. He played in 33 games over three seasons (2013-15) with Washington, totaling 110 tackles (93 solo), two interceptions and 17 passes defensed.

Last season, the 6-foot-1, 205-pounder started all 15 games he played in and posted a career high with 61 tackles. As a rookie, he played in all 16 games and recorded two interceptions.

Amerson played in 39 games over three seasons at North Carolina State from 2010-12, where he totaled 18 career interceptions, tied for third on the ACC’s all-time list.

In a corresponding move, the Raiders have waived S Tevin McDonald.

The Raiders have also signed RB Rajion Neal to the practice and released RB George Atkinson III from the practice squad.
